'Velvet Sessions' to inject life into Tbilisi's music scene

A project that will provide a new platform for music in Tbilisi is about to kick-off. Enter ‘Velvet Session’, a local initiative that aims to create intimate live experiences for music lovers in Georgia. The project envisions inspiring performances, direct communication with the artist, and works to establish a new platform within the local music scene. Live sessions (small concerts) will be held once a month in unique venues. At each performance a high-quality video will be recorded. At each show, journalists will be given an opportunity to interview the performers themselves, as well as the organizers of the event.

The third Velvet Session will be held on Sunday, February 19, at the Blue Velvet Café located at 22 Abashidze Street in Vake. The session will feature the music of Kote Kalandadze, who might be recognized more easily by his work with his band Lady Heroine.

Kalandadze is a stalwart on Tbilisi’s indie music scene. He first began playing the club and bar circuit in the 1990s. Kalandadze’s projects span musical genres, ranging from hardcore-noise, to Russian-language alt-rock, to singer/songwriter type projects. Today Kalandadze focuses most of energy on Lady Heroine, an experimental electro-rock band. For Friday’s Velvet Session, Kalandadze will perform solo, in order to keep the night as intimate as possible.

The show starts at 21:00. Admission is free.
